The
Dickinson Police Department Blue Santa program assures that the children of
needy families receive educational and entertaining toys and clothing for the
Holidays. Our families come to us from all walks of life. The Dickinson Police
Officers compassionately and confidentially find families in need and with their
help Blue Santa provides Holiday cheer.We
work in conjunction with Empty Stocking each year to assure we do not duplicate
recipients.
Blue
Santa volunteers consist of members of the City of Dickinson , Dickinson Police
Department, Dickinson Citizens Police Department Academy Alumni Association, the
COPS program, Galveston County Extension Office, Festival of Lights, and other
civic organizations and churches.
Volunteers
are welcome to help with wrapping, shopping, delivery of gifts and good cheer.
Families and organizations wishing to “adopt” a family are welcome to call
Tony Valdez or Nelda Harles .
Our goal is to serve the children of Dickinson !

30th
Anniversary Celebration
The
City of Dickinson celebrated its 30th Anniversary on Saturday, November 3, 2007 at the Historic Railroad Center located at
218 FM 517 W. It was a day of fun and celebration.
The 70's themed event featured music, food, arts & crafts, a Kids Zone
(with laser tag, rock wall, moon walk, magician, clowns and more), the grand
opening of the Dickinson Railroad Museum, a "Time Machine" Archives,
and a unique and special "Dickinson's Got Talent" Contest.
The event was attended by many current and former city officials.

National
Night Out 2007
National Night Out
was be held on August 7, 2007. The
programs is designed to bring neighbors together in the fight against crime. Neighborhoods
are encouraged to plan events to allow area residents to meet and socialize
with each other.
This year there
were 16 different planned events held throughout the city.
Everything from barbeque to ice cream was on hand. Kids, parents, and
grandparents all came out to meet their neighbors, celebrate and
strengthen neighborhood and police-community partnerships in the battle against
crime.
The
celebrations were all visited by Dickinson Police Officers, Dickinson
Volunteer Firemen, Citizen's on Patrol, Dickinson Citizen Academy Alumni
Association members, City Council members, Sheriff and Constable Deputies.

New
Fire Station #1
Dickinson's
new Fire Station # 1 is being built on the corner of FM 517 E. and Texas
Avenue. It will replace the 46 year old Fire Station #1 located on
FM516 E and Dockrell. The new $2.14 million station will be 13,000
square feet. The architect is Joe Hoover and the construction
manager at-risk is J. W. Kelso Company. Actual construction began in
December of 2006
The City of Dickinson
and Keep Dickinson Beautiful sponsored a team at this year's Relay for
Life. Relay For Life is a fun-filled overnight event designed to
celebrate survivorship and raise money for research and programs of your
American Cancer Society. During the event, teams of people gather at
schools, fairgrounds, or parks and take turns walking or running laps.
Each team tries to keep at least one team member on the track at all
times.
The event was held at Sam Vitanza Stadium On Friday May
4, 2007.

Finance
Award
The
City of Dickinson is proud to announce that our Finance Department has been
awarded the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award by the Government Finance
Officers Association for the first time in its history! This is a
prestigious award that is the result of the excellent work by Usha Mathew
and the Finance Department. Please be sure to congratulate and thank Ms.
Mathew and the rest of the Finance staff for their efforts.
