HURRICANE AWARENESS

Hurricane Ike Debris Removal

February 2, 2009

CURBSIDE HURRICANE DEBRIS PICKUP HAS ENDED

PROPERTY OWNERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVING NEW AND REMAINING HURRICANE DEBRIS AND ANY REMODELING/RECONSTRUCTION DEBRIS.

(Includes trees, stumps, large limbs, furniture, carpeting, appliances, drywall, cabinetry, any/all building materials, etc.)

DO NOT continue to place debris curbside, in ditches, or on sidewalks. Homeowners must ensure that they, or their building contractors, remove the debris and dispose of it properly. The City will not pick up any more debris and will be forced to apply penalties to those violating our Codes.

BUSINESS AS USUAL: Regular Trash Pickup is Tuesday and Fridays. Recycling newspaper, aluminum and bi-metal cans, plastics 1 & 2, continue to be picked up on Fridays when placed in the green recycling bins.

Heavy trash pickup is on Fridays, this includes furniture and appliances but it is recommended that you CALL Waste Management (281) 487-5000 to let them know that you have a heavy pickup. Again, this is not for hurricane debris, building materials or any articles stemming from remodeling due to Hurricane IKE.

Waste Management continues to pick up Green waste on Saturdays. Small limbs, if cut and bundled (tied) in 5 ft lengths and weighing no more than 50 lbs., leaves and lawn clippings placed in clear, plastic bags will continue to be picked up on Saturdays for recycling.

Fellow Dickinsonians:

You truly are the champions in our recovery from Hurricane IKE. By your collective, and individual response, getting the city cleaned up and back in to operation was, without doubt, a community endeavor. Be proud of yourselves and your neighbors for their commitment to our recovery, I know I am. If you see or speak to Chief Morales or Capt. Krone, please express your gratitude for their response and commitment to debris removal. For your information, the hundreds of downed trees and green debris was taken to NOVUS Wood Group for recycling, over 175,000 cubic yards of green debris was kept out of the landfill and is being mulched for reuse. Thank you again for your participation in our recover from Hurricane IKE.

Respectfully,

Mayor Julie Master
