PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Effectively communicates with
people, including juveniles and children, by giving information, directions and
directing them to the proper division or agency. Receives emergency and
non-emergency calls and in-person requests for assistance and information and
directs the requests to the proper division or agency. Dispatches police units
via radio; relay relevant information to police units via radio and maintain
ongoing status of police personnel and units. Operates and manipulates the
enhanced emergency 911 system and the console radios to dispatch police, fire
and EMS units. Monitor security camera screens for the building and prisoners
detained in the city jail. Conducts computer searches through local and state
files for wanted persons and stolen property disseminate that information to the
requesting officer. Maintains manual and automated record keeping systems,
including maintaining logs and completing routine reports on arrest and release
of prisoners. Processes bonding/fine paperwork utilizing cash, credit cards,
money order, and distribution of receipts issued for fines, bonds, photocopies
and credit card charges. Enters and clears warrants for municipal court.
Operates computers, telephones, radios, recording equipment, and related
communication equipment.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
40-hr TCLEOSE Telecommunicator Certification is preferred.
Must be computer literate and have the ability to operate office equipment.
Ability to type at least 30 WPM. Working knowledge of business, English, and
spelling. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information. Ability to
understand and follow oral and written instructions.
MINIMUM
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Must be a high school graduate
or equivalent with two years of previous full-time dispatching experience in an
emergency response environment. Any work related experience resulting in
acceptable proficiency levels in the above required knowledge, skills and
abilities is an acceptable substitute for the above specified education and
experience requirements.

Police Officer

The application process consist of a physical assessment, a written exam, a
background investigation, and an interview board.
The physical assessment consists of work related obstacle course.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND
RESPONSIBILITIES

Patrols an assigned area to
detect criminal activities, suspicious circumstances, traffic and ordinance
violations and hazard to life or property.

Interviews complainants,
witnesses and other individuals to establish a network of information to
determine the validity of a complaint. Detects violations, makes violator
contacts, issues citations or warnings and places violators in custody, as
appropriate.

Responds to calls for service,
analyzing criminal, emergency and law violators to determine the best method
of handling.

Determines sufficiency of
evidence to justify a search and/or arrest.
-
Handles suspects, law violators
and prisoners according to departmental policies and procedures and uses
effective law enforcement techniques.

Conducts preliminary accident and
offense investigations and writes required reports.

Conducts routine checks of
prisoners confined in the City Jail.
-
Coordinates calls for service
with fire, street and animal control personnel, as needed.
-
Participate in community oriented
programs.
-
Performs all other related duties
as assigned.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND
ABILITIES
Knowledge of modern police methods, traffic, criminal and civil laws and
regulations, Departmental policies and procedures, and court systems and
procedures; knowledge of safety regulations applicable to motorized vehicles
and equipment; knowledge of radio communication procedures; knowledge of
routine vehicle and equipment maintenance; be able to type at least 30 wpm and
operate computer equipment; knowledge of City codes and ordinances; knowledge
of the geography of the City.
MINIMUM
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND REQUIREMENTS
High
school diploma or equivalent required,
with 60 college hours from an accredited college or
university preferred. Must be a Basic TCLEOSE certified Peace
Officer in good standing. A minimum of 2 years qualified street experience is
preferred. Valid State Driver’s License required.

An employee
promoted to Detective or Sergeant will be placed on the step of the new
classification that will result in a minimum increase of 3% of the employee’s
pay. For example, an individual who was promoted from Officer Level 3 to
Detective shall be entitled to be placed at Detective Level 3.
