Dickinson Library’s Children’s Summer Reading Program
Contributes to the
Police Department’s Stuffed Animals for Children in Crisis
Program
The Dickinson
Public Library ended its’ Children’s Summer Reading Program with an awards
ceremony honoring those who read the most books during the summer. In
addition, these children donated stuffed animals that are used by Dickinson
Police Officers to give to children who are victims of domestic abuse or in a
crisis situation. Presenting the stuffed animals to Officer J. Johnson of the
Patrol Division is Kathy Soehl, Director of Dickinson Public Library, and
Reading Award recipients’ Judy Taller and Jamie Taller.

Sgt. John Lopez Promotion
On October 1, 2009 Detective
John Lopez was promoted to the rank of sergeant. Detective
John Lopez, a 26 year veteran with the Galveston Police Department
(1975-2001), was hired by our agency on March 12, 2001 as a Property
crimes/Major case investigator. In August of 2007 he was named the Street
Operations Supervisor.
At the time John retired he was working as a
Detective in the Criminal Investigation Division where he had twelve years
experience both as a Detective and as a Narcotic Investigator. John
served on the Galveston PD SWAT team for five years and has been a Certified
Hostage Negotiator for the last seven years. John is a TCLEOSE
licensed instructor and holds a Master Peace Officer License. While with
Galveston John was a Field Training Officer and in charge of the Field
Training Orientation program for new police officers.
