• Decide ahead of time where you will go but don’t announce your intentions.
• Study doors and windows you might use to escape.
• Keep your purse and keys in a readily accessible spot.
• Alert friends and neighbors to call police if they hear anything suspicious. Choose a code word to alert them to call the police.
• Shift arguments to lower-risk rooms, away from kitchen knives, for example.
