Teen Volunteer at the Library

What to Expect

As teen volunteer at the Dickinson Public Library, you will be assigned a variety of tasks by the IT/Youth Librarian. Teen Volunteers are expected to be able to work independently after instructions has been given.

Example of Type of Work

Teens may be asked to assist in different areas of the library, some common duties may include:
  • Aiding with various library programs
  • Providing input and creating library displays
  • Shelving and sorting library items
  • Tidying up around the library

Participation Guide

Students, grade 8-12, who live in Dickinson may apply to volunteer. Volunteers will need to have a library card and be in good standing with the library. The library will not accept volunteers who are required to do court-ordered community service. 

Volunteer Hours

Volunteers may not volunteer during school hours. After school volunteer hours are limited to no more than (8) hours a week. Volunteers will need to sign in and out every time they arrive to volunteer at the library. 

Necessary Skills

  • Maturity and positive attitude
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to follow specific schedule
  • Dependable- arrive on schedule or contact library if unable to volunteer
  • Be accountable for your actions

How to Volunteer

To become a teen volunteer, fill out our Volunteer Application and return the completed form to our IT/Youth Librarian. Volunteers will be contacted and interviewed concerning the availability of their efforts.
